Could NOT resist it, just not strong enough

CustomColt.jpgI had my hand ON the LGS door handle about to leave quietly when the glint in the crowded display case caught my eye. Foolishly, I looked. A brand new Colt Custom Shop 1911A1, in polished bright stainless. In .38 Super. Like a junky finding a bag of crack I asked to see it. The owner remarked he'd had the piece 5 or 6 months with no buyers and he'd never bothered to put it on line. I told myself I had too many other recent expenses. An extended family (we were in from out of state visiting) member works there part time and they offered extremely generous lay away terms, the price included sales tax and the shipping to my dealer. My check book was in my pocket. I was lost....
Just when I thought I had it under control....

Any significance to that serial number prefix?

You see, those kind of situations are precisely the kind that result in.....well.....exactly what happened.
The Super .38 is what would have done it for me.
It ain't a weakness, really. It is more of a distraction that need to be attended to.

We had a range afternoon with two of my cousins and their sons. They had a 8-10 ARs and I couldn't count all the Glocks & Sigs, all with red dots. I had ammo boxes of bulk ammo and had them trying my 1911s. That night when we were talking things over one cousin, just 21 or 22, said that pff all the guns fired that day his favorite was the .38 Super. He was amazed at the accuracy and how 'right' it felt.

Beautiful gun. You would have had to be a strong man indeed to walk away from that one...
