    Series 70 Discontinued?

I just visited Colt's website a few minutes ago, and it no longer lists the Series 70... just the 1911 Classic and the 1911 Black Army. Has it been discontinued?

Lipsey has them but on a closeout, so I think you are right.

On second look, the regular Series 80 isn't listed on Colt's website either. So I guess that may be history as well.

That makes no sense to me. But I've never gone bankrupt.

Wait a moment... the sky isn't falling!

Colt is not getting rid of semi-automatic pistol production entirely... you can choose from the 1911 Classic or the 1911 Black Army, Defenders, Mustangs, Commanders, Gold Cups, Competition Models, Rail Guns, Talo Models, Wiley Clapp models, and perhaps some others I've not mentioned.

This might be a good thing, too. I mean, Ford didn't continue making the Edsel just because there were some die-hard collectors.

Now Colt is not stopping production of the AR. They are just not selling it into the civilian market anymore. In some areas of Colt 1911 land there are more choices. They used to make one Gold Cup in 45 ACP. Now there is the Gold Cup National Match, the Gold Cup Trophy, and the Gold Cup Lite. And now each type can be had in 45ACP, 38 Super, or 9mm Luger. So 9 pistols where there used to be one.

And it is not just Colt. I bought a Ruger SR-762 some years ago. No longer on the Ruger website. This last year at some gun show I was talking to a Ruger rep about it and he smiled and said they did not stop making it they are just not making for the civilian market right now. Of course the Ruger AR-556 is still out there.

I think Colt still has quite a few 1911s to choose from?
A LW Commander. 45 would be my choice.
