One of the 57 Double Header pistols Clawson wrote about in the Commercial Series book.
very cool, didn’t know any of these were known to exist.

Would you please elaborate on what makes it a "57 Double Header"...Thanks

...I take it as double patent date roll mark, double colt address roll mark on slide...but why " 57 "

    Thanks

    mpd1978,

    Yes,...apparently so.

Clawson covers this anomaly in Chapter Three, starting on page 43 of his GM book. In December 1917, 57 (Double Header) Military Pistols "were stamped with duplicate serial numbers". "They were converted to Government Model "Sale" pistols in February 1918 by adding a "C" prefix and offered for commercial sales:"

In this case "Double Header" represents duplicate serial numbers.

    Best Regards,
