Check out the USP on this GunBroker Navy

The engraved(IMO) USP leaves a bit to be desired. The image from my site posted below shows a genuine Colt-applied USP on a pistol in the same serial range for comparison to the one in the auction.

Sorry about the small image in my post above. The hosting site I normally use seems to be down at the moment. Anyway...just examine the auction photos of the UNITED STATES PROPERTY on the auction pistol. I probably need to go back and read the description to see if it is mentioned in the text.

I have in the past been an unfortunate victim of the Woodlawn Boys on a S&W revolver that was badly out of time. Despite their return information, I found out they will not accept returns. I wouldn't trust them despite the fact that they are a well known collectable firearm seller. Just my opinion. I think I agree on the marking problem that Scott mentioned. It looks pretty bad on the original article in the auction.

Here is a 5 digit SN. I agree with your assessment of the auction item.

Here's one from a RIA auction (not that RIA is perfect by any means) that sold for $17K a couple of years ago:

    usn ria.GIF

    and here's the GB version:

    usn gb.GIF

Every serif at the bottom of the letters on the GB gun runs WSW to ENE rather than W to E. Inconsistent letter spacing and line widths as well.

I just edited my first post to add images. While doing so, I just noticed how they didn't get the marking placed in the right position when engraving it.
And obviously, with the USP replaced, the finish isn't original.
