NIB COLT 1911 TIER II limited edition 100th ANNIVERSARY MODEL on gunbroker

Have noticed in the past that there has been some discussions regarding the NIB COLT 1911 TIER II limited edition 100th ANNIVERSARY MODEL and it's availability. Although there does not seem that there was a limit to the Tier III I am assuming that the Tier II has been kept to a limit of 750. The one currently on gunbroker is in the 500 serial number range and listed at $3800 OBO. Not certain if that is a fair price or if there is a future as an investment?

I’d prefer a super clean original WW2 1911 A1 with kraft box for that money. Just me.

Instant collectibles just never seem to go far in the gun market.

Commemoratives never end. Some outfit is always claiming "new" provenance or linking the firearm to some date, anniversary, person, event, or some weak association.
And their published price never holds the value. Huge money too! Buy it & fire it & its just another used gun.

Firearm commemoratives are like minted gold or silver coins. Buyers pay the "strike" value of the "special edition" but never recoop that value when selling. Its always the gold or silver content or % of the metal that really counts.

Always beware of so-called "commermoratives." Look for value elsewhere.

Not all commemorative Colts left Colt that way. There are Colt Commemoratives which were exclusively Colt, commemoratives commissioned by an outside organization that Colt produced and commemoratives by outside organizations like America Remembers that buys standard pistols from Colt and has their own workers or some other entity add the embellishments and sell for an exorbitant price.

Tony is right. You can buy one heck of a nice original service pistol for that money. There is an Ithaca in the classifieds for HALF that money.
