    1943 Colt 1911A1

I have always been very fond of the wartime Colts. They’re sure not as pretty as the pre-war Government Models, but they speak of the time and the necessities of the day. They’re also getting very hard to find in good condition, especially those that haven’t been through the arsenal rebuild process. I got this one at a pawnshop auction, of all places, a couple of years ago. It dates to the latter part of 1943 and is all correct. The slide numbers to the frame, the barrel is right and there are no rebuild marks. Finish is original as well. All in all, about as nice a WWII Colt as you’re likely to come across these days.

I traded for one like in the aisles of the Tulsa show one year. 1941 Colt. I knew it was pretty good but I showed it to a guy that showed me the slide numbered to the gun. He offered me a pretty slick 2nd Gen SAA for it. I declined and ended up trading it for a set of barrels for a Remington 3200 a couple of years later.
That gun shot ball ammo with bullseye accuracy.

I like it!! Very nice WW2 1911a1. It must be near the end of production where Colt put the SN under the FP retaining plate.

Colt stopped serial numbering the slides just prior to the 1.14 million serial number range.

I'm with you... WWII 1911A1s are my favorite. As you said, they speak to the necessity of the day; but there is an elegance to their simplicity.

    Congratulations!
