    Parkerizing a colt 1903

What parts should i parkerize for a colt 1903? I know the frame and slide of course but what about the barrel, safety switch, and grip safety?

Why in the world are you going to parkerize it?

Do you have a particular goal or purpose for wanting to parkerize your Colt 1903?

I parkerized one I got. Why...??? It had no finish and a little light pitting on the right side. Using some wet/dry fine sand paper and some oil I was able to remove the pitting without scalloping the pitted area. Then I parked it my self. Came out great.
The problem is putting it back together. The 3 main parts all have to be put back together at the same time and then put the small pin back at the top of the frame. Marstar of Canada had an exploded diagram on their website. The was like 15yrs ago.
I have seen professional gunsmith get absolutely frustrated trying to put a Colt 1903 back together......

Make sure your pistol isn't unique among 1903's first, but if it's not and the original finish is trashed; do as you please. There are a lot of "average" 1903's out there with trashed finishes that aren't going to be hurt by a PROPER re-finish. A high quality re-finish typically won't hurt the value on an already trashed gun.

Correct for a military 1903, you parkerize pretty much everything but the barrel. And the correct parkerizing is grey zinc. To best achieve a "Colt Like" do your media blasting with a fine glass bead in the 100-170grit range as that's what Colt's used.

Well they made over a half million of these so I would think refinishing one in park wouldn't cause so much concern.....

I say go for it...I actually like them in the park finish along with the early bright blue guns with the fire blue parts....YMMV
