A fellow member wanted to know when the pictured 38 Super was produced.

Looks like 1970 according to my book. (I rechecked my book and I read it in error. It too says 1969)

The new series started at CS001001 in 1969. Larry Hacker supposedly did factory research for his Colt 1911 Pocket Chronology, and lists CS002800 as first Super .38 of 1970.

A Colt letter for actual date.

Shouldn't the reinforcing rings around the screw holes be of the large variety for this gun?

These are commercial grips, not military.

I really like that one Terry. I have this Nickel Super .38 just a little later vintage, 1970 or so. The Coltwood grips are a disaster...

LEO918, I have some nice ivories that I could put on the one I have, but if I ever trade or sell it, most potential owners would surely want the original grips!!

T.May, I apologize. I did not realize Colt made two different versions of the commercial plastic nylon grips.
