    Rear sight elevation stop

I finally found an exploded view of the ACCRO style rear sight as used on SAA New Frontiers.
What limits the upward adjustment such that the adjusting screw does not come out of the sight body?

By design/theory as you raise the sight with the elevation screw, lifting the rear, the front of the sight bottoms out. At that point one has reached the upper limits and additional force should not be exerted on the screw. It is a matter of the mounting/fulcrum pins position.

Thanks for the excellent description of the "stop".
So, seems like that the adjusting screw can be turned completely out and loose the detent ball?

Later Accro Rear Sights did have a Elevation Screw Retaining Pin and the exploited view I observed of a SAA New Frontier depicted the later with the retaining pin.
