    Defender feeding problem

My Defender has started having issues chambering the next round after firing. This is with three different brands of 230 grain FMJ ball ammo. It usually occurs at least once every mag.

Any suggestions or things I should be looking for?

    Thanks in advance!

Did you try a different magazine? Are you limp-wristing it occasionally? Has the recoil spring assembly been changed to a stronger poundage? Look for the simple things to correct first and once you eliminate them from being the cause you can look deeper.

Itís happening with 3 different mags...definitely not limp wristing. Suggestions for springs?? How many rounds does it take to start having this type of issue with factory springs? I have at least a couple thousand rounds through it now.

Time to change the springs. The super compact pistols are hard on springs. I usually changed standard government model springs at 2000 rounds when I was shooting competition.

EGW has a recoil guide kit that is an upgrade and worth trying.

I put one of these https://www.egwguns.com/officer-s-gu...s-spring-10502 in my Officer's ACP .45. It feeds everything from lead RN to jacketed HP's. They make one for the Defender https://www.egwguns.com/colt-defende...compact-spring

Are there any dings or imperfections on the feed ramp? If so, polish the feed ramp to remove the imperfections, not to a mirror finish.

I did that to my Colt Defender, and it fixed the feeding problem.

I have always heard to be careful polishing the feedramp on a defender.

Luckily my .45 and 9mm have run good for me .

Update...shot after polishing the feed ramp and it didnít remedy the issue. I just received two sets of springs from Wolf, 19 and 21 lb. Also purchased a new Wilson mag.

Iíll update again after I get back to the range.

    Thanks for the info here!
