Yes, great movie. The Savage 99 is a great rifle. My nephew took 3 deer with mine this fall. It's in 300 Savage.

I have and love that movie as well. I've also read that book mentioned and happen to have a mod 99 takedown in 30-30.......maybe I'm Albert Johnson

As for the movie....it is a great gun film and Bronson actually uses a 99. He's not the Mad Trapper though...the Mad Trapper uses a 94 and Bronson changes outfits and guns with him at the end and Lee Marvin shoots the 'wrong' guy IIRC.

That single bbl cut-down shotgun with out the buttstock in the photo reminds me of Bronson sawing his shotgun bbl off in the movie. He digs the pit in his cabin and when whats-his-name comes in, Bronson is laying on his back w/the shotgun. "welcome" he says and then blows him away haha. The .22? minus the buttstock also reminds me of the film.

In 1977 I was driving from Tok junction Ak. to Dawson city Y.T. near the Canadian border there was a grave with a board marker saying "Here lies the Mad trapper of rat trap pass".

I would have to believe someone was just messing around, I do not know where the buried him.

As a side note I just picked up a savage 1899 in .300 Savage from 1937 in as new condition, came with a red box of Savage cartridges with 6 fired cases.

    Take care, Duane

I think the real Johnson died far from the AK/Canadian border.
