Is This Jim Martin With Clint Eastwood?

Hey, Jim, I hope you see this. Here's a picture from the 1975 Guns & Ammo Annual showing the guys from "Rawhide" at a Las Vegas fast draw contest in the early 60s with the winners. I know Jim was here and wonder if that's him second from the left standing up. If not I'm sure Jim knows or knew most of these guys. This was an article about Las Vegas gun shows of the 70s but mentioned the early days of fast draw contests there.

Yes it's me & I wish I still had the fringed buckskin coat I was wearing back then,But I do still have the colt I used in that match,it was the 1st National Fast Draw contest ever held, the year was 1959.In the 1st day of shooting the 2 day competition the guy squatting 2nd from the left was Paul Jenkins, him & I tied for the fastest time of the day,in the 2nd day I also shot the fastest time of the day.

And don't forget Sheb Wooley there in the middle on top. I could have sworn Gary Cooper killed him in High Noon. Guess he pulled through, went straight, and joined the cattle drive. In Arganbright's book is a picture of the guy standing next to Clint in the white shirt thumbing his shot. I guess this early fast draw period was before shooters started twisting and fanning.
And Leo918, Eastwood WAS S&W's best salesmen. Nice grips on that one.

Good call Matt, and as you know, there are still a lot of photos in existence with Jim in them along with many other famous people from the old westerns.

Not a lot of people know this but Jim Martin was instrumental in training many of the young "cowboys" of the movies. A lot of our western movie cowboys got their start in movies with Jim Martin teaching them how to handle the famed "Sixgun".

Nice to see yet another photo with Jim Martin in it Matt, so thank you so much for posting that one here for us. It's always a pleasure to see my old saddle partner in these old photos. Hollywood wouldn't have been near as correct without your teaching over the years, Jim.

    all the best,

    Bud
