    A U.S. Navy S&W Victory Model?

I'm in Savannah Georgia for several days and happened across this .38 Special Victory Model with a 4" barrel @ a LGS. It is in the V-249xxx serial number range which makes it early 1943 & possibly U.S. Navy issue according to a forum member who is far more knowledgeable than I.

The action is very smooth & the bore bright and clean.

It was a consignment gun that had been sitting for a month or so and the seller was very "motivated"!!

Here are some quick hotel room pics......

    Charles:

The topstrap stamping that was scrubbed was definitely the US NAVY. It's the right length and location, and the fact that the flaming bomb is still on the butt confirms it. I'm still not sure about the other mark.

I wrote the text of my post from my laptop (bigger keyboard!) and simply couldn't remember the last 3 digits when I was writing the original post.

I posted the pics from my phone where they were stored.

The Navy guns were marked on the top strap where the US Property mark is usually seen. If that was ground off that hurts any collectors value. But all the Victory models I've owned are great shooters.
