Here’s a little gem...... A Rose Among the Thorns!

This was in a shop today sitting in a heap of RGs, Clerkes and the like. It was apparently part of a lot of police seized guns.

It is in .32 S&W caliber.

The last patent date is 1885 and has a serial number in the 147xxx range. If anyone can help provide a DOB I’d appreciate it.

Everything works great and it has a nice bore. The front sight is bent however. Any suggestions as to how to properly straighten it without causing more damage??

The asking price was $199.99 plus tax. I got the frequent flyer discount of $150 out the door.

    Best,
    Charles

Yours is a safety hammerless. The cut off for antiques is SN: 91400. So a post 1899 handgun if that helps. (They were made until 1937)

I actually went comparably more $ on a blue one of those that was ......well...... let' just say it may have suffered some neglect in the past, and the blue was bad on about half the barrel. It is a good little revolver, so I'm not complainin'.
I think you did pretty good on that thing.

Drive out the pin - remove the sight - straighten - assemble in reverse order.

Be patient - use a brass or nylon drift.

I have a 211xxx S/N Safety Hammerless .32 that as near as I can tell dates to c.1917. There are a lot of S/N noted on the Smith and Wesson Forum that will let you get pretty close.

Mine shoots fine, but like yours has a bent sight, so I am going to try the fix noted above.

The sight may have been bent on purpose.....try shooting it first.

    Never thought of that! Hmmmm.......
The isn’t any damage to indicate it was dropped etc. So, that is a very legitimate possibility.
