My first AR was a Colt, but all my AR purchases after that one were from a different manufacturer. Reason was fit, finish, and trigger. There are plenty of makers out there that sell a comparable or better product for less money. Bottom line for me is that I own one Colt rifle but many Colt handguns.

Sounds like these "journalists" are trying pretty hard to make it sound political. Not that anything they say anymore is trustworthy...
I heard something like that too. Can't remember which channel it was, but they said something like "...in the wake of recent mass shootings, Colt has announced...etc, etc". I figure it was easy enough to spin news like that.

All I can say is it is a gun grabbers wet dream! Since liberals cherish symbolism over substance, what could possibly please them more?
    • convince the public THEY forced a gunmaker, any gunmaker, to roll over
    • convince gun owners to boycott a gun company iconic as Colt

To have Colt and Remington go bust...as my great uncle used to say, "They'll have cum drops big as horse turds running down their legs."

Don't you love it !! No more American arms makers !! When we get into our next war, we can just buy our guns from China, like everything else......Whoa, what if the enemy IS China ??

Sorry guys. I love Colt, but I don't buy into this is some kind of temporary "overstocked" business decision. Why the press release? Why not quietly ramp down commercial AR-15 production to meet reduced consumer demand?

First, everyone makes a 1911 these days. Cheaper and with good quality. Colt is not getting out of the 1911 business.

Second, Colt has been a company that is known for not being able to deliver large quantities of a consumer product. Exhibit A is the iconic SAA. Demand way outstrips production. Colt knocks out a few a month and is content with that. Plenty of cheaper Italian alternatives there also.

Third, they have abandoned public AR-15 sales in the past and have a record for doing so. See this 1989 link below. Even the anti gunners were shocked how fast they caved!

Do you really think the Democrats and the gun grabbers are going to stop with your Colt AR-15 rifle? The next preferred "weapon" of mass shooters will be the Glock 17 or high capacity pistols....ect....ect.....this will never end if the gun industry starts to give them ground.

The gun grabbers will take anything they can get when it comes to gun control. Their ultimate goal is registration and then confiscation.

I am very disappointed at Colt's decision. Sorry to tell you this but the leftists and the media are counting this as a BIG win against gun owners, gun manufacturers and the NRA.

I agree with you, but the Washington Post article is a 1989 article commenting on Colt's decision at that time to suspend civilian sales and linking that to the then Bush administration's ban on "assault rifle" imports".

I was trying to show the history of Colt's "business" decisions in the past. Back then, it was the AR-15 was the chosen favorite of "drug dealers" now they have inserted "mass shooters" in it's place to meet the current manufactured media hysteria.

Well, so much for them restocking the LE6920 OEM2 anytime soon. See my other thread on this.

Anyway, Maybe it's time to look at some other options, such as a full raw build from a lower. I don't have all the experience for it, but I'm willing to learn.

    We'll see.

Just curious, though. If Colt is still going to supply the military and LE markets, could those somehow slip into the civilian market, or would they pretty much be NFA items (full auto, etc.)?

No question the gun grabbers would love to have a company like Colt as a trophy on their walls. Any gun company would work but Colt would be a real prize.
