My favorite 45 surprise story started in Puerto Rico. I worked there for a few months TDY as a Finance guy. The controller there liked and collected guns, and the retiring GM told him he would give him his Dad's 1911 from WWI. Time passed, no gun. The controller goes to his parents house (actual owners of the business) in West Palm Beach 6 months later. While there his mother says she has something for him that came in the mail. She goes to the frig and pulls out a box that says Blue Bonnet butter. He opens it up and there is the 45 ... LOADED with WWI vintage shells. Apparently no worse for the wear after the cold storage.
