    Ten Sleep WY

The wife and I headed West last month, spent two weeks exploring the northern route. Couple days with my son in Chicago (which i liked MUCH better than I thought I would), then off to Mt Rushmore, Chief Crazy Horse monument, Custer St Park, Deadwood, Sturgis and on. On the way to the Cody Museum, we rode through Ten Sleep Wy. I knew I had heard that name before, then this morning I found out where. LeverActionBill, Ten Sleep Wy.

    Sorry I missed you Bill.

I imagine it's an Indian name for ten sleeps (ten days travel) from somewhere to somewhere else.

There are several stories as to how this small town got its name. One story says the name Ten Sleep came from the Indians’ reference to a ford across the creek, on the old Bridger Trail, as being 10 days (sleeps) journey from Fort Laramie in the southeast or Yellowstone to the west. The other story relates to a large Indian camp on the Platte River near the present site of Casper, Wyoming, which was known to the early trappers as the Old Sioux Camp. To the north, near the present site of Bridger, Montana, on Clarks Fork River, was another large and well-known Indian camp. They both were important crossroads of the nation and trails led from them in all directions. Half way between the two was Ten Sleep. The Indians measured distance by the number of sleeps – which was 10 – between the two camps.

There’s right much good that comes from Ten Sleep, WY.

LeverAction Bill had a whole lot to do with this one showing up in NC.. and it took more like 4 sleeps..
I think I had cleaned it before he cashed the payment on his end.

G series Colt with the 1st year only, 4-3/4” barrel. The early year 22’s had some great looking case colors.

If I got to Ten Sleep.. I’m gonna see Bill and shake his hand.

That Crazy Horse 'side view' reminds me of the now deteriorated "Old Man In The Mountain" in New Hampshire.

Deteriorated is being kind, for years it was held together by various means. Frozen water behind rock is never kind to the formations. They ended up altering the viewing binoculars so that the image is there when you look through them, not the same. First time I saw it would have been in the early 60’s. When it finally fell off the mountain it was there one day and gone the next. Time marches on without a care for we lowly humans.
