Nice 1873 32-20 added to the collection

A couple of weeks ago this gun came into the local shop and went home with me the next day. Built in 1890.

    Nice rifle!
I've never messed with 32-20 much but I do like that rifle.

Seems I recall reading that back in the day there were two loadings available for the .32 WCF; a milder load for revolvers and a more powerful load for use in rifles. I haven't noticed that at the ammo store?

Winchester made several high velocity loadings, but carried a warning not to use it in the Model 1873. One indicated for Model 1892 and single shot rifles only.

I wouldn't attempt high velocity loads in the Model 1873 toggle action.

Something I noticed when cleaning this rifle is that when you pull off the side plates, turn it upside down, and cycle the action it looks just like the toggle action on a Luger. I would say the 1873 Winchester, the 1873 Colt Single action and the 1911 Colt would be the top three guns on my list for classic goodness.

Looks like an extremely fine Win M1873 3rd model 32-20 x 24" Oct FM. Lots of blue and some case, and equally fine unsanded wood! Apparently with original sights too.
