Another Vintage S&W comes Home With Me...

Just brought this S&W 539 9mm home from my FFL. All steel, adjustable sights, two factory mags, and the box. What’s not to love about vintage steel and wood?????

Nice...the Model 39 and 539 pistols are among the most comfortable pistols in the hand. The 59 series may have greater capacity but feel like you're holding a 2"x4" in your hand...much like a Glock large bore. It's hard to go wrong with blue steel and wood.

That is a nice one! I had a 539 with adjustable sights, two actually, really nice guns. Yours was made during that brief time they were using that short wide extractor. I asked S&W reps about that at NRA or SHOT one time. They told me it was for a potential military contract that didn't pan out, so they returned to the pivoting extractor used previous, and since. They said the military wanted an extractor that did not require a drift to remove and reinstall. Don't know how valid their information was, but thought it was interesting...

Thanks for the input. I did not know that. You guys/gals always teach me little tidbits I was unaware of.
