    Ruger Security Six

It took several years but I finally found a decent Security Six with the 2.75" barrel. For me that' s a bonus because I like short barreled revolvers. Won it yesterday at an auction. When it was all said and done with I paid $541.80. It was an internet auction, but the auction company is only a few miles from my house so I was able to give it a thorough exam before the bidding began in earnest. I got in a bit of a bidding war for it. It's a 151 prefix and a serial number search shows it being made approximately 1975. Placed it next to my GP100 3" for the sake of comparison. You know people talk about certain Colts and Smith & wessons being hard to find, but I have had a heck of a time locating a nice Security Six...or a Police Six/Speed Six. This one took a few years. I've actually been saving up for one of the new Pythons, but I didn't want to let this one go so I dipped it into my savings. That's okay I can build it back up and eventually the 2020 Python will be around in large numbers (and hopefully they will have the teething issues fixed by then)…….unlike the Security Six.

First centerfire handgun I owned was a Ruger Security Six. In my opinion it's a great revolver. Mine was a four inch barrel in blue and I paid full price for it at $87 dollars. Store here bought a distributor lic and sold them wholesale. Congrats on finding one you like.

Security Six is a helluva revolver.
My first handgun was 6" Security Six.
It was $99 and I got a box ammo of and a holster with it.
I wish I never traded it.

I still have the 6" stainless Security-Six I bought new sometime in the early 80's. Still have the box and papers but can't recall how much or where I got it. My wife used it with LWC's to shoot league matches for several years.
It may have to go to the range with me today just because...

The Rooger Security-Six series is a much lamented revolver...it allowed Bill Ruger to fulfill his desire to do to S&W what S&W did to Colt in the law enforcement market...and he pretty much succeeded until Beretta and Glock did it to him. The Security-Six also made Rooger a force in the DA revolver market.

I'm not knocking the GP-100 series, but the GP-100 is pretty large for a duty type sidearm and more of a hunting and field revolver.

Late last year I finally sold my NIB Security Six, 1979 production. Several people knew I had it and there was a competition for it. I have others but none in 2 3/4" and no more NIB. I included a set of OEM target stocks just 'cuz.

Still at CPD. Got hurt last year thanks to a big, drunk, and very strong suspect who wasn't going to jail quietly. Ended up with a detached retina and had to have a couple surgeries to repair my eye and save my vision. During the recovery I decided I no longer want to fight drunks in filthy basements at 4:00 A.M., so I went upstairs to detectives. I'm working fraud cases now.
