    S&w 29-2

So I spotted this 27–4 on the Internet. Took the car and drove 45 minutes to see it in person at the LGS.

    He happened to have several model 27, in 2 4 6 8 3/8 inches

In the pile of revolvers there was something different, I went “Hang on, that’s not a model 27, let me have a look”

    It’s a 6.5 inch model 29–2, pinned and recessed, from 1975 or 76

I still do not have a model 27, but the model 29–2 was mine for $900 including the combats grips of the 27-4

The LGS had also had a box full of old grips and he let me roam through it

I took six pairs for $200 and installed period correct targets with the football cut

Great going. People ask and probably get over $200 for one pair of S&W Combat stocks on Ebay.

The 6 1/2" pinned & recessed Model 29-2 I think you did okay. You really made out on the grips package as Wyatt Burp observes. Selling off all the grips on eBay you might end up getting the gun for about $300 or so. Also if there was a 3 1/2" barrel Model 27 there in the lot i would negotiate for that. There is no two inch Model 27.

Very nice score. I used to have a 29-2 in the 8.375" length but sold it because I like shorter length barrels. Ended up replacing it with a 4" 29-2 which I shoot quite often. I definitely would have bought the first 27-2 you pictured since I already have a 5" and 6" version.

Interesting, I did not know that. Is there a 2 1/2 inch ? Or is 3 inches the shortest one ?

In any case I won’t sell them, I’d rather buy guns for them

The shortest M-27 is 3.5 inches. You may be thinking of the K-frame M-19 with a 2.5" barrel.

The Smith & Wesson Model 27 shortest factory barrel length is the 3 1/2" tube. The 3 1/2" is in high demand with collectors. Like the Colt Pythons in 2 1/2" and particularly the 3" barrel models are highly sought after, but often faked.
