Sorry for the delay in responses here - I have not logged into the forum in a while. Will answer all the questions here.

bygeorge - for that model, it would be a $75 fee for a Pocket Positive on that gun.

Mikecp - I checked and saw your letter was sent on January 31 - typical turnaround time is about 90 days for most researches.

zqsme - most commemorative models are not on the site yet, but those were all produced in 1961 - serial range of 1AM to 7390AM.

grandwra - we would have to research the unit, however, most late numbered conversion units are USMC.

inkey50 - there are no .32 caliber Detective Specials or Cobras with shrouded barrels - the model was technically discontinued circa 1972, but already manufactured parts were assembled into guns for a few years afterwards.

[email protected] - unfortunately, i do not do firearm values - i would suggest posting your question in the Single Action Army section of the forum with photographs to get an idea of value from the membership here.

The wait is agonizing. My request to letter a Bankers Special went in about Thanksgiving and I am hoping to get something before Easter.

You can always email me or call the office for a status check. Current turnaround on standard service is about 90-100 days as Bev & myself are currently shipping about 150 letters per week. We hope to have a third person added soon!

    Paul,

The question was asked in the Colt Revolver Forum as the earliest Pre Detective made, (Police Positive Special with 2" barrel marked 38 Special on the barrel". You lettered one to me PPS 2", Barrel Marked, 38 Special, lettered as SN 336999, Noted as Selected, shipped to the Dept of Police, St Louis, MO, 1 Gun, Shipped, May 14, 1926. Any thoughts on what the earliest SN or date was? Thanks, Andy

I'm not certain what the earliest date / serial number is for one of these (just have never researched it). Of interest is that the Colt Archives collection of firearms does have a cutaway version of one of these in the 290,000 serial range somewhere. Other than this one which is obviously an exception, I don't think I have seen on prior to 1926.
