Colt Vickers Machine Guns - Dates

I got a phone call today from a gentleman looking to date a Colt manufactured Vickers machine gun. Is there anyone who knows of a resource for dates of manufacture on these? We don't have anything in the archives for fully auto guns, but I'd like to help steer this guy in the right / any direction. Any help is much appreciated!

You might try the guys over at Forgotten Weapons. They seem to have a lot of resources about firearms from that era.

You need to contact Dolf Goldsmith. Dolf wrote the book, literally, on Vickers Machine Guns and has owned a few 1915 Colt Vickers too. Dolf's email address is [email protected]

If you can find one and can pay the freight, get yourself a copy of Dolf's The Grand Old Lady of No Man's Land: The Vickers Machinegun.

Read this: Book Review: The Grand Old Lady of No Man?s Land « Forgotten Weapons

You should also contact Bob Naess of Black River Militaria. Here is his web site: Black River Militaria Main Page

I just corrected Dolf's email address above. The correct one is [email protected].

As we say in the law, when all else fails, read the law. When all else fails on a Colt product, read "The Book of Colt Fire Arms." On Page 536, it says 14,000 Model 1915 Vickers machine guns were made by Colt from the summer of 1917 through late 1918. There is no serial number chart shown.
