Rick liked post by mrcvs On thread : Opinions on this Henry Nettleton
A nice Nettleton, and worthy of Mr Kopec's evaluation. I believe his letter could enhance value. I believe at least two screws on the left side of the frame are later replacement screws. This...

I really like the shape and fit of the stocks to the gun. The cartouches are stamped higher up on the grips than usual. Thanks for posting such great pictures!

Anytime that you mention Custer, SAA's and serial numbers, you get a lot of speculation and comments. Most of the SAA reference books by Kopec give the Custer serial number ranges based on available...

I would leave it alone. just as 29aholic advised. Any money you put into this one will be thrown away. It's no longer original and never will be.

That's pretty deep. I don't think that could have happened unless struck with some force while on the gun, otherwise the grip would break. That wood is hard. I dunno...

Like you say, it's a great book, but I wish the photos were color and I've got two 1800's Bibles with better binding.

Just ran across this picture, as taken about 40 years ago. The Colt SAA is an etched barrel 44-40 x 5-1/2" in the 128xxx range. Unfortunately, it was a "no-record" gun in Colt's archives. Holster...

Rick liked post by mrcvs On thread : What they looked like when new in 1880
Well, it will be interesting to see what this one ultimately brings. I think the pre auction estimate is overly optimistic at $160,000 to $250,000, especially since I think that Cavalry (and...

Leather-smiths call these dome-headed things "Spots". They are made of thin sheet brass, with many nickel plated. A few are made of German silver. The Spots came in various diameters from 1/8" up...

Wow, good eye, Rick. And it's actually higher than you wrote, at #19301. As I already pointed out, that Cavalry Model has problems! It might have already been lettered by John Kopec and the...

It seems to me a lot of the "junk" went high, but the really good stuff went lower than it should have (meaning Gold Seal Letter attached). Rick, what I wrote seems to correlate with regards to...

Got a chance to look these over this morning. They belong to a friend of mine who was a collector back in the 70's. #1, #2, and #4 letter to 1875, 1878, and 1898 respectively. #1 also letters as...
