    An Old Military Collector

I signed on to the forum a couple months ago and have thoroughly enjoyed reading a wide variety of posts. A city boy I got my first rifle, a Marlin 39A, at age 12. By age 18 I was buying & selling war trophies acquired from WWII vets & the Army & Navy Stores in town. At age 21 I have my FFL and at age 22 I was a 2nd lieutenant in the US Army. That association lasted until I was age 53 at retirement with 32 years service (a slow learner). I had stored a lot of my early collectables with my parents while I was seeing the world in such places as Korea, Japan, Germany and Vietnam. So my first few retirement years were spent cleaning out the basement & gun safes.
Today I call myself a collector of US Military Small Arms, although I still have interests in other firearms. One example of that is the Browning Hi-Power Pistols. I fired my first one, a wartime piece made in German occupied Belgium and I liked the way it felt & fires. Since retirement I have acquired a small number of them.
My Colt collection isn't very extensive either but I'm still looking. To date I have these: Colt M1903, M1911, M1917 and M1911A1. The M1903 is a civilian model. Not having a Class 3 license I have had to substitute a M1A for the M14, a Colt AR-15 Sporter for the M16 and a Bushmaster AR-15 for the M4. I'm currently working on finding the best Auto-Ordnance replica for the US M1A Thompson Submachine Gun.
I'm looking forward to learning more about the Colt arms from the forum. When I learn how to include photos I'll put them up periodically. Thanks for viewing this long piece.

“It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carry the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life, or death ---- it shall be life.” - Ten Bears - “The Outlaw Josey Wales”
