Getting back on the forum after an absence of a long time. Have some new Colts SAAs being worked on by a known smith and should have them next week for the SASS regional shoot in Minnesota. I still have my first Colts, which I bought around 15 years ago. The new ones are in 44WCF, or at least one is. The other in 45 Colt I wanted rebarreled to 44, but the smith mentioned to me today that it's the first time he couldn't remove a barrel from a Colt. He didn't try to use excess force since he was worried that the frame might bend. Any recommendations on a smith who can deal with "stubborn" barrels?

"he was worried that the frame might bend"
. Sounds like the gunsmith is doing this very wrong, if he is worried.

Some wrap-around frame blocks such as the ones illustrated here can be used without fear of bending the frame. I made my own, but Brownell's sells some much like this.

It amazes me that most "gunsmiths" cannot even make a spring. They don't know how. Pathetic!

“It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carry the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life, or death ---- it shall be life.” - Ten Bears - “The Outlaw Josey Wales”
