How about pictures of your SAA ivory? Kinda like pinto beens..."just can't live without 'um" legal, preban, old ivory.

Makes me wonder has the oldest pair we can document via Colt factory letter?

I'll start with two of my favorites. The checkered Eagle has a Texas Star on the off side.

This pair I had made up 30 years old. The checkered pair above I picked up 2nd hand 12 years ago. Both were cut from pre-ban, legal ivory.

Rick it is Persinger's work. I have several dozen pair of ivory and Paul's efforts are head and shoulders above anyone else currently working. Seldom am I overwhelmed at the quality of guns or grips. Paul's work is simply stunning every time. This pair is with out a doubt one of the very best pair of carved grips I own. Not just the fit, finish and carving but the really important part...how they fit your hand if you want to shoot them. It is impressive work.

They are a stunning version of a longhorn :)

That is a very nice grip set up. I don't get to jazzed about carvings but this one is nice . This question is for any , What kind of glue is that ? Ivory to ivory and holding up good .

No glue or filler...just another thin piece of leather....
I should have commented earlier Edwin. My apologies. Some of the brown on the inside of the grip is burn marks from cutting the ivory. Some from rust staining it. No harm from either. ivory is just "tooth" and will stain like human teeth given a change. But you aren't hurting anything.

The leather is odd to me. They have added enough leather to make the main spring come in contact with the leather and make the hammer harder to cock by doing so. Made me think they were trying to help a weak main spring. Note the bottom is cut away for the main spring screw. I would have thought it was to tighten up the grips to the gun but it is not. It would make a weak main spring hit the primers harder if the leather is stopping the spring's arch. Sure seems like the leather would do so to me. Either way that is a new one on me. I wonder if Jim Martin as seen anything similar?

I have to admit the look is much cleaner . Not feeling the screw holes is a plus . A little trickier to make but I worked on them at a leisure in the morning having coffee before work . Well worth the extra effort . I can't bs you and say I whipped them out in a day . Hour wise I could have payed less if I had gone to work early on those mornings but it wouldn't have been the same .

I own a couple pair of 2 piece ivory. Never something I really liked. I suspect that was because when I could first buy ivory 2 piece grips were the most common. Can't remember who mentioned it but likely Paul Persinger. Who ever it was didn't like drilling two holes for the grip screw, then drilling two holes for the locator pin and finally if you wanted medallions drilling two holes for that if not 3 more per side just for the medallions.

2 holes, plus two more holes, plus medallions and all of a sudden a clean pair of smooth one piece ivory grips sounded a lot more durable.
