So, the 'Yankee Marshall' of YouTube announced today that Colt dealers already have the new Python but the release for sale is set for January, 2020.

I post it in the lounge because until this FYI is verified, it's not Python category worthy.
Thanks

The grips felt good in my hand. I don't like to bash the original Python but I never could figure out why people are so crazy about the grips. The material might not be the same but I think I like the new ones better, that's just me. Also, I really like where my thumb falls (right handed) on the flat spot when gripping, very comfortable.

I agree. The laminated stocks on the new Python may be the same general design as the original Python but they are more comfortable in my hand. They must be dimensionally just different enough plus maybe rounded a bit more to increase comfort. Colt did a good job on the new stocks.

Interesting...I handled a 6" at the LGS on Sunday and felt that the DA pull was short, at least compared to my S&Ws.

Karl

The DA pull is shorter than both my Smith 586 and my model 29. Before I got mine I watched the Python videos and on video the DA pull looked really short. After I got mine I was just surprised as from watching the videos I was expecting it to feel very short and when I shot mine it just wasnt as short as I expected which in my opinion Im glad. As I think it is great exactly as it is and alot smoother and shorter that any of my other DA revolvers of various brands/models.

How do you guys keep seeing them in LGS??? I placed an order with a fairly large dealer in Houston on Jan 1st, and they still have no idea when they're arriving. Said they were supposed to get 50, according to their distributor.

Since then, I've checked all over the city and in Dallas and San Antonio (I travel to those cities a lot) and no one has gotten any.

Like you I started calling my favorite gun shop (who has always done right by me) on Jan 2nd and every day after that! And like you they had no idea when they would get one. Well last Thursday at work I thought should I call today or just temporarily give up until more actually get out in distribution as Im sure my gun store is getting tired of me calling every day!

Well I gave in and called anyway. And to my surprise he said they had one that should arrive at their shop in the next few days and that they could not hold it unless I came in and either put a deposit on it or flat out pay for it or I could buy it over the phone with my credit card. Well I tell you my credit card jumped right out of my wallet! I paid for it over the phone and had it in my hands three days later. I was nervous as all the issues started getting posted online after I prepaid :/. Luckily I got a good one.

So my advice is just keep being persistent and it will pay off.

Good luck!

Well then I guess even the "Colt Fever" website is guilty of spreading misinformation.

"Uniquely, the Python bore was tapered slightly toward the muzzle.

As the bullet passed down the barrel the tapered bore gripped the bullet tighter, increasing accuracy.

As part of the manufacturing process, the Python barrel was given a somewhat mysterious treatment known as "the silver ball". "

And neither am I trying to start any conflict... but if there is misinformation on a number of websites... then it should be corrected.

I know of one member on this forum that could most likely set this to rest... but he seems to be avoiding all the commotion in this thread... and I don't blame him.

Either way... I guess it's true that if misinformation is repeated long enough... it becomes fact.

This may or may not be the case here.

However... I think it's time to drop this subject... even though I was the one to raise it.

I’ll intentionally short stroke mine when I get home to see what it does. The advancement pawl may not reset unless the trigger is completely reset. I wouldn’t question it if he was slow firing the revolver. But rapid fire can certainly create user errors that people like to blame on a normally functioning gun.

I wish I could upload a video of the python action, but I don’t know how to on this forum. I took the side plate off mine to better understand how it works. And I will say the hammer reset happens relatively quickly but the locking pawl and advancement pawls seem to need a total reset to start the cylinder advancement process over.

Gun Revolver Trigger
Revolver Metal Trigger

I got my Lucky Gunner order in today and went directly to the range. Same as yesterday, no issues and I used three different brands of ammo. I included the picture of the firing pin strikes. A couple of pages ago somebody mentioned something about light strikes. I think mine is good. I have had nothing but a positive experience on my 2 trips to the range. Just wanted to add some positive vibes.

Awesome! good to see some more positive posts. Hopefully more will continue to come in. Im gonna try to take mine out tomorrow for its 2nd range trip. And hopefully it will be as flawless as its first trip was.

I had time today to look over my new python.
It is gorgeous. Very well designed. The grips are absolutely stunning and are a perfect fit for it.
Its by far my favorite colt as far as beauty. It is a work of art and no other manufacturer has a firearm that is close to it.
I did not try out the action but that really doesn’t matter to me because it will not be fired while I’m alive.

Sounds like you experienced the same reaction that most of us did when you get the new Python. I was really thinking in the back of my mind that it’s not going to compare, and then you get it and then. Wow. You know .. they did it. it’s a Python. I like the way the new stocks look and feel. I like the way the finish and roll marks look.
Good for you , Biff !!

That’s a tough decision that’s got to be made quick.. probably ahead of time. Do you pay msrp to get it now, or wait until stock catches up and save some dollars later on? I’ve seen quite a few saying they’re waiting it out to get past the start up issues and higher prices.

The 4 inchers haven’t hit yet. I’ve used this line already, but I do want one of those like a teenager wants a cell phone. So does at least two other Sportmans.. Sportmen... sportsmen .. sportsman... Sports announcers.. Sports officials.. —— all of them.

I got a back in stock email from Sportsman's but at this point I want to see Colt acknowledge what the failure to advance issue was or at the least, that they have remedied it. By then I figure prices will come down a bit too.

I loathe sending anything back but really don't want to sign up for sending back an expensive gun for a long wait.

So my father in law just called sportsmen’s warehouse.

They do not actually have any in stock. He called them and several other gun stores.

The story he was told was that Colt has stopped shopping all Pythons to distributors with no explanation as to why.

Which isn’t uncommon during a product launch of an issue is found. It is better than creating a big recall.

I also called customer service and they were more concerned about the barrel crown than the potential cylinder advancement issue.

His exact words were “that issue will be limited to a few specific guns”. Sounds like they had a way to forecast which guns were going to a reviewer and maybe they polished a little too much metal off of some key parts. Maybe?

So my question is. How many people here own the new python, have shot it, and what were the results?

My 150 rds through mine were flawless. Anyone else have issues?
