New to me a fairly early Ithaca. Appears all original, HS barrel. On the right side the numbers 114 are stamped. Has anyone seen this before and what could it be? Comments welcome. Dogface6 advised it was shipped to Transportation Officer, Springfield Armory on January 21, 1943. Do any records exist that say where it was sent from Springfield Armory?
Probably a rack number applied some time in it's past.
Is the receiver a Colt Model 1911 transferred to Ithaca? I have one a couple of hundred numbers earlier that has the heart shaped cutouts in the grip area. It also has remnants of the UNITED STATES PROPERTY on the left front of the receiver.
I suspect the shipping info you cite is for a Colt pistol, not your Ithaca. The first Ithaca pistols were not shipped until March 1943. Colt duplicated serial numbers in this serial range.
Without doing a detailed search of the Ithaca shipping records, it is impossible to say when or where any Ithaca prior to 24 May 1944 was shipped because Ithaca did not ship in strict sequential order prior to that date.
The 114 was added later, but by whom I don't know. No telling where all the gun has been since it was produced.
This Ithaca won't have the heart-shaped cutouts, but may have the Colt markings on top of the receiver...just in case you are only looking for the cutouts. A picture of the top of the receiver will tell the story. The finger cutouts remind me of a Colt receiver.
Johnny's right. When I stated earlier the cutouts reminded me of Colt, I was thinking about the transferred receivers Colt sent them later.
The frame on 862660 is a Colt M1911 receiver which was made before mid-1918.
