New to Pythons , my first one

I acquired this 1961 Python this weekend. Looks to be in nice shape. But I did notice that the grips are not correct. To me, it's good enuff for the grand I paid. Can't wait to get it to the range. Thanks for letting me join in the fun here.

What is the serial number? By chance do you mean an '81 Python?

The box, paperwork, grips, and gun all look to be from the early 80's. Are you sure about that serial number?

Well, my mistake. I suppose I overlooked the letter in front of the number. Had my wife email a pic of the end of the box, and it starts with a letter T. Explains the grips. LOL

Regardless, $1000 is a REAL deal. Unless there is something bad wrong with the gun.
    Range report would be good.

Hello and welcome to the Colt Forum from West Virginia. Love the Python. "WHAT A STEAL" at that price.

The T prefix guns just started right as that box style was ending. As others said, $1000 is a steal for that gun if it looks as good as it does in that one picture. Those grips would be correct for a T prefix python. Welcome to the snake guns.

It looks to be brand new. But the friend who sold it to me assured me that he did see his father fire 6 rounds through it when he bought it. I intend to put quite a few more through it this weekend.
