    Python test targets

    Hi All,

Tried to search for this answer to no avail...

I have a NIB 1969 blued 4" - the test target has 6 holes in it - did Colt only fire 3 test rounds, or is it a mixed bag of 3 or 6 rounds.

    Thanks

I know they would test every other chamber for three rounds...six I can't say. Maybe it was a special order Python or maybe all Pythons were tested with six during a particular period of time.

A spin off question. I bought a new 2 1/2" nickle python NIB from a colt dealer in 1971. I dont think there was a test target in the box or else I lost it but I am fairly sure it didn't come with one. (48 years you know). Was every python suppose to come with the test target?

Colt "targeted" most adjustable sighted handguns from sometime before WWII to around the early to mid-1970's. I believe they stopped shipping targets with the guns about the same time the styrofoam shipping carton was introduced, which would have been around 1973. I have a small database of targets that I have owned or seen over the years. There are eight Python targets in my data, with dates from 1957 to 1970, with one outlier from 1997. Most targets I have seen have five shots, but I can't remember them all. I think they would have five or six, depending on Colt's requirements at the time.
