    Help - First Python Purchase...

    Hey Folks,

I hope you are all doing well. First, apologies if I didn't post this in the right spot. Really would just like some opinions from folks that have played in this space more than I have. Looking to buy my first Python...a 1983 6" Blued. As I approach forking over a nice sum of cash...just like to feel a bit more sure in what I'm seeing, and feel a bit more sure it's on the up and up. Done a lot of research on my end and comparing pics, but you just don't know what you don't know or haven't experienced. Specifics are that it's a 1983 Python, supposedly from mid-1983...and this is all original box, tags, etc. Has the red front sight and white outlined rear. From what I can tell, appears to lightly used, 98%+ overall condition. What I'm asking if there's anything I should be wary of, does box look right for the year....etc? S/N of gun does match box, but I've read that the labels were printed around this time, not handwritten. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I look to buy my first Python. Thanks in advance!

The box and handwritten label are 100% legit, hang tag is not right for the year. The serial number is in the correct period, 1982/83

Thank you so much...do you have an opinion as to what a fair price would be...?

I typically go to sites like Gunbroker to see what actually SOLD (not "asked").
For a 1980's 6" blued python I see a range $1825 shooter to $2763 for complete. Probably in that range. Good luck!

I thought the red ramp started in 85 and orange in 87.

I can't tell if the screw hole under the cylinder has been dished out which can happen during a refinish. If it isn't too much I would consider it a go.

Thanks so much...regarding the refinish...I attached a few more pics...does that give you the vantage you need to tell about the screw hole? Really appreciate your perspective and insight...I am not sure what constitutes "not too much" as I'm new to Pythons and I've seen these go for all kinds of prices...this one is $2800...seemed average for what I've seen?
