    Python Kydex holsters

Hello, I am currently operating a kydex holster shop in Philadelphia and I am going to make one for my python. With all the new pythons being produced it got me to thinking if there would be a real market for it. I have done a j frame in leather texture and it came out really good and looked like a classic holster. Basket weave is available as well.

I was wondering, would this interest anyone or would everyone stick to leather?

    Thanks

I'm sure Kydex has its place but I prefer leather. I tried nylon some time back but went back to leather. A well designed and manufactured leather holster may be more expensive but it is superior in my opinion.

I think you're making a Python holster in Kydex is probably worth doing a prototype and maybe a pilot run as so many of the "tacticool" crowd loves Kydex...you might just have a success...especially if you're in the market ahead of anyone else.

I like leather for my revolvers... it just looks and feels right. But that may be just me.

I like leather. I do have the plastic 10 cent holster that a sig 238 came in and maybe a cheap cloth holster for another seldom used gun. However at at almost 79 years old I am old school. The newer generation is heavy into high tech plastic etc so it`s likely mostly us dying off old geezers that wont be big on it. We are outnumbered.
A python deserves a nice rig.

The new Python is not the old Python....... it's built for unlimited shooting and isn't a Ferrari priced revolver like the old Python.
As such a lot more people are going to be shooting these and I'd guess a good number will be carrying them.

For that reason I suspect there will be at least a small market for a Kydex Python holster. If/when Colt introduces it in a 2 1/2 inch version you'd see an even bigger market.

I think it would be a smart idea to prototype a Python Kydex and after the 4 1/4 inch Python is largely available, you might advertise it.

I have recently found that the new python is slightly taller from trigger guard to top strap so this could effect holster compatibility. I have an original python so I could mold mine for the earlier models. I’m hoping to see a 2020 model in the wild soon so I can test them.

For now here are a couple more pics, tan leather for a 1911 with matching magazine carrier and also the fabric wrapped texture in multicam.

Tough sell on a classic sixgun. On a Glock or the million other plastic pistols out there sure.....but man I couldn't bring myself to put a Python (or any other sixgun other than a modern competition rig) into a kydex holster.

I’d be interested in one to use a range holster for action pistol shoots.

I'll put my plastic guns in kydex. My steel guns go in leather. That's just my preference

Well, realistically the only way I carry all but one of my guns is in a range bag, but generally speaking, I like leather.
