    My 1st Vintage Colt SAA ! 1st Gen 32-20!

I am excited to have bought my first 1st generation Colt SAA today. Its in my favorite caliber (32wcf) and was made in 1904. It still retains some of its CCH on the reciever and hammer and a lot of its original bluing. The bore is minty, very shiney with strong rifling and no pitting. All serial numbers match, including the grips. Seems to me to be an honest example but please, if you see something that doesnt look right, let me know. 1904 seems to be a transitional year between BP and Smokeless. Can I use modern cowboy loads to shoot this one? Thanks, Cliff

Factory ammo should be fine - especially with lead bullets. The cylinder walls are so thick on these that the weak link is probably the top strap. Please post a range report! Looks like a great shooter!!

Going by the serial number i would have no problem with shooting smokeless powder ammo.

SAAMI specs are a maximum of 16,000 cup if I remember correctly. Other non-SAAMI sources rate it for 30,000.

Thanks for the compliments and information! Feel free to critique it as well. I have thick skin . I studied it pretty hard when I was considering buying it and it looks legit to me . Im glad I can shoot modern ammo in it from time to time. I had heard through the grapevine that one of my local dealers (who I had never heard of), had recently purchased a collection of over 200 Colt SAA's. I had a hard time believing it until I saw for myself. It was true. He had plastic containers full of every possible configuration possible including some early Calvary guns, silver plated/engraved/ivory gripped beauties, and more. I didnt have to look far to find the one I was looking for and one that I could afford. The dealer was extremely helpfull and patient too. He took the grips off, pulled the cylinder and bushing, etc. We checked the timing and hammer function and found it to be excellent. After I got it home, I found that the base pin lock spring was broken but I had one in the stash. Anyway, again, thanks!

You might as well be speaking in Chinese to me. I have no idea what that means but thanks for the info!

Nice gun, looks "right as rain". Base pin MAY be a replacement but it is close enough that it doesn't make any difference. You didn't picture the hammer spur; does it have the line under the checkering? As others have said it is a nice looking, original, unmessed with SAA. Congratulations.

Thanks you! Yes..I think it has the line you are referring to on the hammer. Heres a picture.

Nice looking SAA! One most anyone would be proud to own. 32-20 is a fun caliber in an SAA.

    Best regards,

My opinion is free, and worth every penny of it.
