Jim Martin works his magic once again

I sent two family 1st gen colts off to Jim. An 1883 44-40 that had a ridiculously strong hammer pull and a 1901 .45 colt that had some issues with the cylinder and needed a new ejector spring.

Turned out the .44 needed a hammer repair in addition to a new mainspring and a new bolt.

The .45 had some rough spots where the cylinder fit into the frame, got a new ejector spring, and a new mainspring.

Took him 3 weeks or so to do the work and the guns function fabulously. The price was less then I was e pecting when he told me about the extra parts work.

Plus, I got several fine conversations with Jim out of it.

Jim is like a dedicated Colt SAA surgeon. I think he likes saving their lives and is pleased that he gets paid to do so.

I was thinking about driving out to see him and leave my 1979 Colt SAA to have him fix some notchyness in the hammer. I ended up dropping the gun off at a local gunsmith but he hasn't started on it yet. I may just have him mail it to Jim.

I spoke to Jim a couple weeks ago about my gun. Nice guy, loves to chat. Would be cool to meet him in person at some point and even cooler to have him work on my gun. I was trying to convince my son to drive out there with me, father/son road trip, but he thinks I'm nuts.
