    Texas & Australia- Consecutive 1875s

The twin Single Actions were born in 1875.
#21761 shipped as a 45 Eley, in mid 1876 to Colts London Agency and a short while later, on to Australia.
#21762 shipped as a 45 Colt to Kittredge in late Dec 1875, seven months earlier than the Aussie Colt.
A visit to an 80 year old friend in West Texas last week resulted in our conversation finally getting around to a
Colt that he had been given by his grandfather in 1959. His grand dad had loaned a local fellow $5 in 1932 and the revolver was put up to guarantee the loan. The fellow did not return for the Colt and Grandpa carried it under the seat of his farm truck until giving it to his grandson. I had lettered #21762 for my friend in 2012.
I took a photo of the Colt letter and then decided to share the info with a Forum friend. I photographed the Colt
out doors in a 35 mph wind with the accompanying West Texas cotton farm dirt blowing in my face.
Afterward, on the Forum, I noticed a post that included info on Colt SAA #21761. !!!!!!!
It was in Australia and owned by Tony56, a Forum member. A quick pm was fired off and then I had to figure what time it was in Australia! Finally heard back from Tony. 15 hour time difference.
Tony misunderstood my pm and proceeded to tell me about #21751 which is ten numbers from his Colt. It was in country in Australia but the owner would not sell. I pm him back and inform him again that my friends Texas
Colt is #21762 and we have identified a consecutive pair of 1875 Single Actions, one half way around the world from its “mate” in Australia! That got his attention!
After 144 years, these two Colts had just been reunited on the Colt Forum.
After learning of this, I contacted the owner of the Texas Colt and his first question was “Will he sell it?”
Another rash of emails confirms Bad News! After having his revolver for sale for three months in Australia,
it had sold to another collector in country. And that new owner never let anything get out of his personal collection after it goes in!
It had sold two days before my visit to the Texas Colt. Found and lost in the same week!
Tony indicated that the known history of his gun was repeated several times. Twenty to thirty years each time it was sold, it disappeared from Coltdom.
We never got close to all the import export legal hassles. Doubt we ever will. But at least they were located and
enjoyed and caused some excitement for a few days. Both guns had lettered luckily so we have confirmation
of their history and proof of their travels.
On a side note, the Texas owner told me a story that he had repeated in many prior visits.
He said that the last time it was fired was the day his grandfather had given it to him in 1959.
It had five rounds in it. One was 45 Colt, two were 44-40 and two were 38-40!
As a teenager he said, one bucked and roared, two made a little less noise and kick and the last two sort of
popped and the bullets bounced of the wall of his grand dads wood barn and fell between his feet!!
Quite a story. Hope you enjoy it.
Ill post this thread and ask a Forum friend to add the pics.

21762 has a dovetailed front sight. Was that common back then?
