This was a very fun piece to have been able to research (and look at, that's for sure!). As many of you know, Colt's shipping ledgers for late first generation SAA's, starting in 1933 through the end of World War II were lost years ago. We do still have the production records, which will indicate a limited number of features for some of these guns - for example, if a gun is engraved and, for some reason, if the gun was a .357 magnum. All other specifications, like finish, level of engraving, and other information pertaining to the specific configuration of the piece is not recorded in these production records.

What was lucky about this piece is that we have one and a half pages of shipping ledgers for SAA's, in what we call the "All Models" book (in 1933, most models were given their own separate ledger, whereas before the ledger books contained a date range, hence our 'all models' nickname). This number was, lucky for the new owner, able to be documented fully.

Congratulations to the new owner! This is a great example of someone who has taken the time to educate themselves, and something tells me that he probably knew what the archive letter was going to tell him before he even called me.

Thanks so much to Paul and his work as well as his excitement!

This is a very late lettered 1st gen as you guys know. Have any of you seen a LATER LETTERED 1st gen that is factory engraved? Number 357600 went through RIA in 2013 as the “Highest serial numbered and last produced factory engraved 1st gen”. Just wondered.

Ampersand normally signifies a trip back to Colt for refinish and/or repair.

Definitely not a refinish. Repair, who knows?

Doesn't take anything away as far as I'm concerned. It's a great piece.
