Top strap is different (in profile as well as manufacture) on a Flat top target model than a SAA or NF. Something other than Colt ?

Nothing about it looks like a New Frontier to me . Can't explain the sn though . Old style Colt adjustable sight were never offered on a NF .

The thickness and profile of the top strap area of the mainframe is thick like a NF. Standard SAA in comparison is noticeably thinner than the one discussed.
Looks to me like the rear sight removed and attachment holes filled in, rear sight groove cut/machined in to the top strap, and front sight replaced with the target model type sight. Professional job done on modifications and engraving, IMO.

Front sight different than Colt. Colt rear sight shaped different and does not have set screw for adjustment. Also located slightly farther toward muzzle. IMO, not completely Colt

A rather wordy email has been fired off to cabelas in hopes of more info. I’m not holding my breath, but this thing has got me scratching my head. It seems to be a mishmash of about three different pistols. Flat top targe type sights, new frontier serial number and an odd grip frame. Not too mention the frontier six shooter roll mark lol

I am far from being an expert but why is the base pin not fully seated?

I saw those three guns recently sell in the September Rock Island Auction. I bid on the screwless frame one, but was too low. Seems too bad that they are now so much more expensive now that they're at Cabela's.

I noticed that base pin too. It used to be, back in the 50s and 60s that you'd see a SAA with an army grip frame pretty often but as the guns became more expensive and more desirable in original configuration, people just changed them back. Obviously the person who commissioned that pistol like 7 1/2 inch flat topped target with and army grip frame. Me, I like 4 3/4 inch, full blue with ivory.

The seller says factory engraved but doesn't show any paperwork or provenance. It's nicely done... but weird
