Greetings to all,

I do not pay much attention to the “internet folklore drivel” that a few of my “friends” e-mail to me. This particular item however caught my interest. Whether or not Mr. Gates actually spoke these words is, to me, a moot point. If he did not, someone should.

WAKE UP AMERICA¬Ö

Read on, I think you’ll enjoy.

To anyone with kids of any age, here's some advice.

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school.

He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it !

Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had > a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

If you agree, pass it on.
If you can read this - Thank a teacher!

Morning,

I was lambasted at another forum for this post and, unfortunately for me, it was my first (and probably last) post there.

Apparently, these folks did not read my disclaimer and I did not read their rules. On top of the post I made here, I had added this:
“Greetings to all,

As this is my first post, I feel the need to apologize in advance for it not being directly related to firearms. However, I feel it does give insight as to where much of the, shall I say, “odd” and “PC” legislation originates.”

D’ohhhh….my mistake.

Oh well, live and learn. Any-who, at the Ruger forum a member was kind enough to include this link for the “poop” on these words of wisdom.
http://www.snopes.com/language/document/liferule.htm

BTW, my kids are 18, 20, and 22 and they will be getting a copy of this. They really do not need it as they ALL work, two attend school, and are/will be paying for their own vehicles.

Sometimes my wife and I feel bad as we wish we could give them more (Joe & Jane Blue-Collar here) but at least they are not spoiled and they KNOW the value of a dollar – THANK GOD!

KG59, 1st off welcome to the forum.

As you noticed, no one here hammered you and your disclaimer was obvious. I see no need for your apology but it was gracious just the same.

I also included a link in my 1st post. Not disprove your post but more so as a reference to help identify the validity of some of these types of things. If anyone followed the link I provided and read the commentary, they will find that the post was attributed to the wrong person(Gates).

So tell us about your Colts. You can't go wrong doing that here!

Welcome, kilogulf59! Here, here! But, maybe you're preaching to the choir? I teach school for a living and believe me, our kids hear this speech and others like it often ... Does about as much good as my grandfather bawling out my dad for listening to Benny Goodman records! (Devil music, don't ya' know?!) The older my wife - who's also a teacher, and I get, the more this strikes home. "Why can't they be like WE were - perfect in every way! Hey! What's the matter with kids today!" (From Bye Bye Birdie.)
