So I am screwing around with this thing and looking for grips and it hits me. Someone modified the grip frame. I was looking at all sorts of little stuff missed the big thing staring me in the face. Hahahahah
These little revolvers were favored hideout or back up guns used by a
number of old west pistolero's. Guys like Billy the Kid, John Wesley Harden
and Doc Holliday. I have one of these as well. They are a neat piece of
history to hold in your hand and wonder "what did this piece see?"
Good find, it looks like they also modified the trigger guard by drilling a hole and adding a pin in the frame to help stabilize the grips. What caliber is it?
The caliber etching that should be on the barrel looks to be worn off. I can't see the stamping on the rear trigger guard bow where they marked early 1877.
Yes looks like he added an extra pin for his homemade grips. It is 38. Can barely see it in one of the pics. Ordered a used back strap and grips. Still in it for short money.
