Is it in 2 pieces now, or is it just loose and rotating freely on the safety pivot? Not that it makes a helluva lot of difference, but the cleanest fix would be to replace the safety. Correct parts are available.
The cheap fix is to ascertain the correct alignment of the safety pivot, position the slide hook the way it needs to be, mark the pivot and the hook, with a punch or something, and take it to the bench and stake the bejezzis out of it with the corner of a cold chisel. This will work, but it will more than likely be a cobby affair.
If you look at others that have been handled this way, you can decide if it is something you can live with. Some actually look OK after the treatment.
You can see ones like that on GB from time to time.
Sometimes they have been staked with a prick punch.j
It was two pieces. I was able to use a metal cement mixture, join the two parts then place firmly in a vice for 24 hours. Buffed with a Dremel polisher and installed. It seems to be holding fine through the range of operation.
