Does this handgun only take target loads? I was about to purchase one but I had heard it's only a target gun...is this true? I'm looking for a good 1911 5inch that I can shoot ball, I don't ever have a use for target ammo. Should I be looking at a different model?

Not sure if or when Colt stopped putting a 12lb spring in the Gold Cup. At one time they came with 2 springs. I have a 'light' GC recoil spring in an original(?) brown envelope that has a green painted end.
If in doubt, buy a fresh Wolff 16.5# recoil spring that will come with a new FP spring and Shok-buff.
