When you could buy them without government regulation a pair like that could be had easily for $400, but under current conditions you will be hard pressed to get them at that price…..I wouldn‘t let mine go for that knowing I could never readily buy another set. And because I can’t freely buy them I have resorted to mammoth these days

The last pair I sold was $385.00 and I made a good profit on them . I bought them from Dan who was making them for Colt , I gave $175.00 a pair and bought several pairs. That was before the ban. He passed a while back and I kinda wish I had kept the pair I sold, $400.00 wouldn't buy them now . Fortunately I still have the other sets.

Thanks for the comments.

The seller is firm at $600.

There are not any recent sales for checkered that I can compare. I have found a few smooth sets that have sold for $500+.

These grips have been listed for a few days without any interest.

Also, while I was searching for these grips I noticed that Mammoth ivory is creeping up in price too.

Thank you.

All ivory is creeping up. Look what happened to pearl over the last 10 years. The supply was long gone and the products out there break, get lost, are depleted over time. What's there is there and it will never grow (most likely..I learned to never say never long ago).

If you want anything, I'd not wait too long. Don't overpay (too much), but be willing to pay high for something you want now. It will either be a good deal within just a few years, or not attainable at all by then.

Are they elephant or mammoth? If they are elephant $600 is very nice.

They are elephant.

He says they are. Does mammoth resemble elephant?
Yes. But the grain pattern known as the Schreger lines is different.
On the bottom edge of grip you’ll see the pattern.

Here’s probably one of the last elephant ivory “pieces” sold by Boone Trading Company when all the restrictions were put into affect. Since there was already some very strict laws concerning endangered species (and plants); called CITIES. The additional laws, piled onto existing laws almost reeks of gun control laws!

Bought my first carved steelhead ivory grips for $150 fitted to my straps from Sol Weisenfeld 40 or so years ago..Anyone that loves ivory and is over 60 probably remembers him well..I'd gladly give the $600 for those checkered Government Model grips..

Have Ivory, documented as pre ban, on 4 or 5 Autos. I made sure the sale and Ivory was very legal. Have all the paperwork. Today? I'd make sure you had all your ducks in a row. Just saying and good luck, If legal, you will pay premium so be prepared you want them.
