I have a 1960 1911 (unfired)

Question: What does the "- C" officially mean after the serial number. I have had people tell me what they thought, but would like to know for sure.

The C was originally in front of the serial number, but was moved in 1949.

No, the "C" serialized pistols were Commercial Government Model whereas the Military pistols were the M1911 & M1911A1.
