I am looking at a 1917 made 1911. It has the U.S. property marks. It's probably 70-80% condition with original finish. The seller said it was used in ww1,ww2, and I think Vietnam nam, though I don't know if he prove his. Any input would help, this colt bug has got me and I am worried about buying before I learn more but don't want to miss an opportunity either. Thanks, Steven

as all will tell you here..... a picture is worth a thousand words. They will also tell you that you buy the gun and not the story. The condition is what dictates the guns value. Now if it had a famous owner of can be proved to have been somewhere special than it could be worth more. The people on here have a wealth of knowledge and would be able to give you a good ball park value.

Also....you would need to make sure it has all the correct parts. if it hade been in 3 wars I bet it has been to an arsenal at one time. If it has the arsenal stamp it is not worth as much as one that has not been. Many factors go into pricing it correctly.

Sage advice by ping10. Pix always help. An asking price would be helpful, too. BTW, is it possible you might be able to get it appraised before you plop down cash?

As noted, it would be highly unusual for a 1911 to have made three wars and be in 70-80 % original finish. Maybe it has and maybe it hasn't, but if original finish it really doesn't matter. Present day condition is what matters.
