1941 national match colt 1911 45acp



i went to get a used 45 for service pistol.stock 1911,found one 1941 national match colt 1911 45 acp.great shape tight,got home took it apart and it has a grip fire pin safety.no clue ,started looking up info. it has a swartz fire pin safety.seems like this is a rare gun,so do you think i should shoot it,or save it. also i shot 5 rds thru gun 185gr swc.25 yds all holes touched each other so it shoots well.but it didnt feed bullets smoothly,would 185 gr fmj hp feed better. thanks for any info.

Welcome to the forum. I suspect an archive letter would show shipment in 1940. There have been some parts changed--sights, barrel, grips--but it is an interesting gun.

Sights and barrel are not original. If you have no interest in correcting it, you might as well enjoy shooting it.

THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT,I HAVE NOW SPENT HOURS LOOKING UP COLT 1911 HISTORY AND JUST ORDERED A BOOK 1911 MILITARY AND COMMERCIALS
PISTOLS, I ALSO CHECKED OUT ANOTHER VINTAGE 1911 SO I THINK IM HOOKED,AND I AM GOING TO SHOOT THE NATIONAL MATCH FOR WHAT IT WAS INTENDED FOR SERVICE PISTOL MATCHES.THANKS TYRO

Yep! Those pistols do not grow on trees. A very nice find indeed.

hi thanks for all info.some one said the sights look like king sight on front,very common upgrade.also rear sight says micro also a common upgrade,and used later on gold cup.the barrel is a springfield armory barrel,but cant complain gun is 80 years old.now some one said grips are wrong,what would correct grips be ? thanks tyro
