Hello all.... I stopped by at a LGS and found this for sale. I am new to the python and was wondering what the experts think would be the value with its current condition. The pictures are from my cell phone and I tried to get the blemishes. Please let me know what you think.

Also...the asking price is $XXXX. The serial number puts it at 1957 SN#5211. There is no paperwork or box.

Thanks for the help.

Barrel wear and a ding in front sight at front

Turn line

Grip (other side looks just as good)

Right side of barrel wear at front other shiny part is from the lighting.

That wouldn't be in Goldsboro would it? Serial number 55xx or something like that. Don't worry I have all I can pay for right now. If that's the one it is pretty nice and I did drool over it. Good luck!
I was trying to throw the scent off the trail yesterday.....It was in Goldsboro. Now it is in my possession. Pictures to come later.

Why bother removing the price from the original post? It makes the thread useless to any future searches where people would have a similar question. I believe it was $2200.
The reason I removed the price is if I ever decide to sell it people would use what you bought it for and try to negotiate what your profit should be.

Sales price is based on value of the item, not what you paid. Economic goods, whatever the market will bear. Good deals do not necessarily get passed on to consumers.
I agree chaosrob...but there are always people who think since I paid "A", that I should take "A+B" and that should be enough since they know what I paid.

Also I was very worried someone would find out where this gun was located and buy it out from underneath me. Turns out there were 15 people at the store when they opened but a S&W shipment was last night and they were there for that.

Also I will pass along that the same gun store has another python from 1966. Asking price is $1395 and does not have original grips. The store is WT's Guns in Goldsboro NC.

Well I know you only paid 2200 so I will offer you 2400. I would just laugh them off. If I find something on the street, nobody claims it and it is given back to me does that mean it now has zero value?
Actually......I talked them down a bit, so it was an even better deal.

While I am thinking about it......I want to get replacement grips that look original so as not to wear out the original ones. Any help would be great.

Your 4-digit had been sitting there for 2 years. Wonder how he first priced it, way back then. They can't believe how many calls they've had today.
How do you know it has been there 2 years. Did you call them and they mentioned that they have had a lot of calls. If so thats too funny. Maybe I should get a commission for some advertising for them. Wonder if they sold the other python.

I know it has been there for at least a year. I saw it three or four times. I travel that way every Friday on my sales route. I bet you were really concerned when you pulled up and saw that crowd there. Glad you got it. Sure looks like a good one. Congrats.
Yes, I was really concerned when I saw all those people in line at 10 min to opening. Luckily they were all there for S&W's. Once you let the cat out of the bag on its location I was really nervous it would have been bought out from me. My somach was in knots on the 35 min drive out there. The only reason I posted it was because I have never even considered collecting pythons but this one got my attention and I didnt know the value of it in its condition. Granted its in good shape but since I am new to this I didn't want to make a mistake on my first time buying one. Glad it all worked out and I am going to keep it

So I called WT's on Saturday and they said they had at least 15 call on the 57 python and once they told them it was sold some inquired about the 66. They said they could not believe all the phone traffic they received because of my post. I told them I was just passing along info to where a python was. They were fine with it but were very puzzled what generated all the calls.
