I know it has been there for at least a year. I saw it three or four times. I travel that way every Friday on my sales route. I bet you were really concerned when you pulled up and saw that crowd there. Glad you got it. Sure looks like a good one. Congrats.

Yes, I called to check on the '66 you said that they had. It is a little more worn than I wanted, plus it is a 4". They were concerned about where all the calls were coming from, so I told them it was a good thing, and the gentleman they sold the 6" to was a good buyer who was giving them a lot of free advertising. They seemed happy then.

Enjoy that fine piece.

Yes, I was really concerned when I saw all those people in line at 10 min to opening. Luckily they were all there for S&W's. Once you let the cat out of the bag on its location I was really nervous it would have been bought out from me. My somach was in knots on the 35 min drive out there. The only reason I posted it was because I have never even considered collecting pythons but this one got my attention and I didnt know the value of it in its condition. Granted its in good shape but since I am new to this I didn't want to make a mistake on my first time buying one. Glad it all worked out and I am going to keep it

Next time to save yourself from getting an ulcer, just ask for advice on price/condition etc instead of disclosing price, location and etc.

I'm glad you got it, it looks nice. Here's how I handle collecting (any antique) and buying. I don't ask anyone for a price opinion. I do my own research and take my own chances. I research comparable items that have actually sold, on several sites and live auction histories. I don't mention the particulars on any forum. It's not difficult for someone to research where you live, check a few gun shops, and buy it before you return. But I collect more rare items (Pre Civil War antique photographic equipment) and you have to be VERY cautious or another collector will be tipped off, and buy it out from under you. For example with guns, if you say, "how much is a 4 digit Python worth?" the next question is "where is it? (rationalized by the idea prices are different in different areas). The second question is "do you have pictures" (which also identify the serial number - making searches easier). The last question is "what did you pay?" which really isn't anyone's business if you think you'll sell it in the future. For determining my price, I acknowledge that selling online the world is your market, so prices are higher. In a shop, I deduct for that fact. If Pythons like you found sell for $1900-$3000, the shop will probably be asking $3000. If they are asking the low end, it's getting interesting. If they are asking well below the range, I probably will consider getting it, depending on how low. To me, there is no reason to ask someone a value on something commonly sold - you risk tipping an unscrupulous person off to look for it. After you buy, then you can show it off, and know one has to know where you got it. Never reveal your sources.
I agree on what you say regarding researching a reasonable price. If you ask for opinions, that's what you get - not necessarily facts. Ping10, congratulations!

So I called WT's on Saturday and they said they had at least 15 call on the 57 python and once they told them it was sold some inquired about the 66. They said they could not believe all the phone traffic they received because of my post. I told them I was just passing along info to where a python was. They were fine with it but were very puzzled what generated all the calls.
