Burt Reynold's film, Sharkey's Machine, filmed in Atlanta in 1981.

All the detectives in movie seem to carry 1911 Colt .45s.

Anyone know for sure; served on Atlanta PD in those days?

I do't know about Atlanta, but a lot of detectives/plain clothes officers around the country carried 1911's where it was allowed during that time period. .38 or .357 revolvers were standard issue for most departments back then and a lot of guys wanted a semi auto with the extra punch of a .45. I think LAPD started a trend. I am interested to see comments of anyone who was working in Atlanta at the time.
