Can anyone tell me the value of my revolver? It has the faux bone grip and I was wondering how common this was? It was made in 1975 and I was wondering what years they had these grips.

The grips are aftermarket…not Colt. Without more and better photos it’s difficult to give an educated idea of value…but from what I see I’d say it’s about a $2k Python at best.

thanks Snidely, I hope the Mounties don't catch you. I do hate the grips and I'm not sure why someone would change. It is not abused like it was dropped and had to change out. They do offer a nice grip and it shoots real nice, but am trying to sell for a friend that needs the money and figuring out the value. Great forum, I've received some very good advice.

As noted, better photos from both sides, of the open cylinder, muzzle, etc. would help. It looks like there is a good bit of wear on the leading edge of the frame and at the muzzle end, but that could be lighting.

Do you have the original box and papers, or only the gun? Any comment on the lock up, action, and timing? What condition is the bore in?

IMO, most buyers are looking for original grips, so while the faux bone might look nice to some, it probably detracts from the value.

I don’t have near the experience of others on here, but I say maybe $1500 tops if the wear in the photo is real (vs a lighting effect) and no box. Check Gunbroker for actual selling prices of that period without original grips.

there are holster rubs. I did not know they were aftermarket grips, thanks. I did not like the looks of them from the start, but, it does shoot nice, and the grips do give a good grip. It was given to me by a friend years ago who now needs money so I am trying to figure the value before listing and will return the money to him. I will check Gunbroker, thanks again for your input.
